I’m definitely one that advocates for orgasms and plenty of them but, imagine being allergic to the very thing that gives you pleasure?
For some people, it’s a very real situation!
Plenty of sources including the US Department of Health & Human Services, confirm that there is indeed a condition called Postorgasmic illness syndrome (POIS).
Whilst the condition is rare, if you are a ‘sufferer’, its likely you would present with what appears to be an allergic reaction and perhaps even flu like symptoms such as fever, fatigue, stuffy nose and/or a sore throat after you orgasm.
Oh and that would be with a partner or as a result of solo sex.
Literally…after any orgasm!
The condition is more common in men but women have reported symptoms too.
Sadly, there is no scientific justification as to why POIS occurs but there is a school of thought amongst some scientists that in men, it’s basically an allergic disorder that causes an inflammatory reaction to a substance in a man’s own semen whilst others believe it is all down to a chemical imbalance in the brain.
As far as women are concerned, being allergic to orgasms is often put down to a chemical imbalance in the brain, similar to that of men but it some cases, as a result of being allergic to actual semen. This condition is actually known as; seminal plasma hypersensitivity.
As you can imagine, a condition like this can cause distress and upset with some people opting to abstain from sex or opting to schedule sex in so they can prepare for the aftermath.
Imagine…
Can I just also add, whilst POIS is considered relatively new with the first case being recorded in 2002, the amount of cases across the globe could massively more than the 50 or so reported cases because of a lack of knowledge, awareness and/or diagnosis.
So, with the above in mind, if you can enjoy orgasms without any side effects besides the desirable ones…consider yourself lucky!
